FAQs

Why are you both a doula & a therapist?

I have a strong passion for supporting new & expecting parents, as well as reproductive health care in general. In both roles, I get to support people where they are and help them find empowerment in their journeys. Social justice is a central component in this work and I hope be an advocate in a variety of ways. Trauma-informed and LGBTQ+ affirming care is always a priority. In our time together, I aim to support your choices and uplift your voice!

Can you be both my doula & my therapist?

No, I am unable to be someone’s doula & their therapist as to prevent dual relationships from occurring. A doula and a therapist are two very different roles and I want to support each client ethically and appropriately. I provide referrals to other perinatal therapists in the area for my doula clients that request that mental health support.

Do you accept insurance?

I am in network with UHC Medicaid and Forward Health/T19 Medicaid for mental health services. Clients can also pay privately for therapy sessions if they do not have Medicaid. I do offer superbills to provide to other insurance providers for out of network coverage. Please confirm with your insurance company of your out of network benefits for more information. You may also be able to use FSA & HSA cards to cover the cost of private pay sessions.

I am an approved Carrot provider for birth doula services.

Where are you located?

I am based in Madison, WI and have an office located on the isthmus for in-person appointments. I also provide virtual support throughout Wisconsin. For doula services, I support families within 60 miles of Madison.

What does a doula do?

As a doula, I say my support is broken down into three main parts:

Physical support - assistance with positioning to promote labor progression & comfort, various comfort measures (breathing, counter pressure, visualization techniques, etc.), supporting with meal prep and household tasks postpartum, infant care

Emotional support - creating a safe space for both the birthing person and their partner to explore the emotions surrounding birth, postpartum, and parenthood, being a nonjudgemental, listening ear

Evidenced-based information & advocacy - providing evidenced-based resources to ensure clients can make informed decisions throughout their birth and postpartum journey, assisting with communication between clients and their providers and support systems, uplifting my client’s voice

What can I expect for my first therapy session?

Our first session consists of reviewing the intake paperwork (HIPAA/confidentiality, communication, billing policies, etc.) and answering any initial questions you may have. We also talk further about what is bringing you to therapy and start to collaboratively develop goals for our time together. I may ask questions about your relationships, any pertinent history or lifestyle factors, prior therapy experiences, among other things. I do hope to make this first session as welcoming as possible!
